Post card #10

This one came from Taiwan. It took about 3 weeks from the postmark to arrive in Portland.
"The rabbit is a rubbing from an old cake press"

Pretty stamps and a clear postmark.

More postcards received

Cute one from Ohio. I like the boxes.

One of a series from San Francisco

This is an affecting message from Athens, Georgia. It references a group called "Free the Girls" focusing on liberating girls forced into sexual slavery.

I really enjoy these swaps. Love seeing the different styles and points of view.

Postcards received in the Fall Swap

Here are two great collaged postcards. The top is from Minnesota and the other is from the UK.
Very cool paint and stencil on cardboard from Camas, Washington.
Lovely hand-colored original drawing from LA, CA.
Very interesting abstract design - paint and collage from Scotland.

A fabric postcard from Orlando, FL!  She had the post office hand cancel the card then she put it in a clear plastic sleeve for mailing.

These are all so cool and different. You can see why I love doing this swap!

Follow Hanna at http://www.ihanna.nu/postcard-swap/  She usually does two a year, so the next one may be in the winter or spring.

Very clever - black out poetry card from Alaska.

Collage and paint from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 And here's a card made from a painting by a 5th grader I know:
"Barrel of Duckweiser"

Post card from Sweden

From Sweden: "pictures are symbols from 1000+ year old rock carvings found in Sweden." I like the gold leaf.

Fun stamp!

Post card from Columbus, Ohio

I received this post card yesterday: made from a recycled flyer from Columbus Art Museum. It looks like a monoprint, plus paint, plus collage on top of a photo. Not sure what the photo is, but it definitely looks like a Dale Chihuly blown glass sculpture.

My post cards for iHanna's Spring 2016 swap

For iHanna's Spring 2016 Post card swap:

I had intended to make some reduction linocut cards, but that didn't work out.  Maybe I should start NOW for the next swap.  So, I played around with water color and words.  The mantras helped with how I've been feeling lately.

In progress

Finished - and put into clear bags to mail. I tested one to myself and it made it through in good condition. Hopefully the international ones made it!

All manner of thing(s) shall be well

2013 Autumn Post Card Swap - sent

These are the cards that I sent out in the latest swap by iHanna. You can sign up for her newsletter if you'd like to be notified of the next post card swap: Hanna's newsletter
I was experimenting with a lot of looks this time: Using acrylic inks, eye dropper drawings, collage, stamps and stencils.

Some worked better than others.  But in my opinion the post card swap should promote this idea of experimentation, especially since we are exchanging with others with open minds about art!

Acrylic paint instead of my usual water color.

Liquid Acrylic Eye dropper drawings with stenciled dots.

2013 Autumn Post Card Swap - received

iHanna organized another post card swap for the fall this year.  Here are the ones I received:
I received cards from Sweden, Canada and the US.  A couple came from Texas - you can guess at least one!  Stitching and collage and drawing - so much fun!

Check out the retro stamps!

A great example of unified theme, value and color.

A subtle glitter edging - only visible when turned a certain way.

Post cards that I sent

Here are a few of the cards I sent:

Drawing of Chocolate Cosmos with liquid water color and Peerless Transparent Metallic water colors.

Trying various pens and designs.

It's fun to experiment - there are always some I like better.  How many layers to make? How much is too much? When to stop?  It sure is fun to play with the paints.
